Benefits
of Pediatric Physical Therapy
Children are
always spraining ankles, breaking bones, or they may pull or tear
a muscle during physical activity. All of these incidents call
for some kind of short-term or long-term physical therapy. Besides
injury from physical activity, physical therapy is also used for
certain conditions such as Cerebral Palsy or neuro-motor, congenital
and non-congenital diseases which require therapeutic manipulation
in order for children to move their bodies easier, restoring,
improving movement, therefore improving the quality of life.
Children with
Down syndrome, Cerebral Palsy and various other diseases find
it difficult to deal with daily situations of living. But if they
get physical therapy, motor reflex control improves significantly
which makes it easier for them to perform routine tasks. Physical
therapy focuses on improving the child's ability to deal with
the ailment.
There are
a number of different conditions and injuries that require physical
therapy in children such as Jumper's knee or Osgood Schlatt disease.
These conditions are characterized by tenderness and pain around
the bottom of the kneecap. Kids who are involved in sports tend
to have this problem or during growth spurts. A physical therapist
may use heat and ice along with ultrasound to gain control over
the pain. The physical therapist also works on strengthening the
knee and thigh muscles along with improving overall balance through
posture exercises.
Pediatric
physical therapy is an excellent way of resolving various conditions
of children. The results can be tremendous if children are given
physical therapy early, as it will improve their quality of life
as they develop into adults.
