About ...Never Happen & Tim Loft
ABOUT DRINKING ,Only one observation...there are more old drunks than old doctors!
I started with pigeons in 1960 at the tender age or 11, little did I realize that it would be a life long passion. I have been lucky enough to be around some special pigeon people and have some interesting stories to share, this will have to come in person as there is so little space.
I've held all kinds of positions during my almost 50 years and have met people from all over the world truly a enlighten ing experience, that only the pigeon game could offer.
I keep a fairly small operation and do not sell my pigeons , if I'm lucky enough to get a good pigeon I want it for myself.
I manage the old birds on widowhood w ith some hens ,not too many maybe 6--8 with about 20 widowers. I fly my young birds semi-natural about 45-50 of them . I don't like to train so I try to loft fly as much as possible . I keep 8-10 pairs of stock birds. When I started with birds I never medicated, gradually that changed too much ,now with the help of very knowlegable people, friends I am on a very limited medication program.
I keep and unusual loft "condition" which I call "Loft Karma" it's kind of hard to describe but seeing it and feeling it and you know what I mean. I don't maintain much of a loft schedule either as I used to work two full time jobs and I worked split shifts for 30+ years,so I felt it wouldn't work anyways I just tried to do what I thought needed to be done.
I try to very tough on my selection of birds and want birds that don't let you down.I don't care about any particular color or size or strain . I can't look at a pigeon and grade it ,I can only look at a bird and tell you if I like or not. If you want to see my results go to the Boston Concourse web site,or ask anyone from the area.
That's enough for now as I think my head is starting to tell me something?
The Pigeons ...
I fly about 40% Bussarts that I've had for almost 30 years I was lucky enough to be friendly with Augie Parziale and got him to part with a couple of pair.I also fly some Jan Ardens that I got from Brad Laverne. I have recently (last 5-8 years) brought in some Jim Luiz birds which have been more than good. Jim flys in the Rhode Island club Jim and I are good friends and both he and his birds have been a boost to me and my loft performance.
Awards and Results ...
Tremont Cup 20 out of the last 21 years, beating my nearest competitor by over 4 days in the last few years.I have been lucky (and I do mean lucky) to have won the Boston Concourse Average Old Bird ,Young Bird and Combined the last three years. A feat I believe has never been previously accomplished.
My system for winning young bird races...
Clock the first bird to arrive, most of the time otherwise whatever arrives is okay.See the introduction page, no secrets just having the right recipe.
General Tips ...
If you have better tool you can do a better job.it take the same amount of effort to work with a stiff as it does to have a champ. It's not how hard you work ,rather how effective you are 1.Better birds than you competitor 2.Loft ? How can it be better or more efficient? 3.Reasonable management which includes a keen observation when you go through your routine. 4. This is the "BIG" tip! I have a friend who is an excellent pigon competitor...DR.DAVE I invite him over for a couple of beers and he usually looks around at the lofts and birds and advises me, works good as he doesn't remember a thing!!!
