About ...
2009 I.F Registered Champions All three of Walsh Loft s 2009 I.F Registered Champions are bred down from his Walsh family that he has developed over the last 30 years. The basis of our family is the old Schofield Hanseene Family, which we have refined thru the years with performance pigeons only, to build our Walsh strain. Our family of birds is exceptional & excels at the 300-400 mile young bird futurity races; they have scored in many band races, derbies, and won the 2006 IF Convention race. #1606 Zoltan and #100 Are full brothers and bred from the extraordinary breeding pair Boz & Lulu who breed winners out of turn. These three 2009 I.F Registered Champion birds flew for the past three years as widowhood cocks with great success! These three pigeons have won collectively combine races from 100 to 500 miles. Zoltan was Third Combine Champion Bird in 2007 & 2009 and #100 was First Combine Champion Bird in 2008. This family has won races for generations, from 100-600 miles. Their pedigrees are full of performance pigeons that have excelled in the long distance races. They are pre-potent breeders producing new winners in each generation. I.F Registered Champion 6143 - "Cash Dollar" is bred down from the Silver Cock 2767. All three of these great widowers were moved to the breeding loft for the first time in 2010! Paul looks forward to these 3 super cocks breeding his next generation of winners. Visit these three winners at www.Walshloft.com! We are a Loft that breeds strictly for performance. Our birds are famous for their toughness and ability to fly 100-600 miles in all types of conditions. After over 30 years of breeding and Racing, I consider my bloodlines the Best of The Best.
The right birds to win, the Real good Walsh pigeons that win for us and others, where Heredity is handed down from one generation to the next , like breeds like. intelligence, compass, homing instinct, navigation skills, determination, courage and heart are inherited from the birds pedigree or Ancestors' Bloodlines. with effective an well organized loft management, and lots of training, as well tenaciously. Sticking to the guiding principle of KISS "Keep It Simple Sam" you will see the desired winning results. I wish you luck.!
Pigeon racing should be a relaxing pastime. The competition in most combines has however become so fierce and the lure of big money for important winners is so enticing that every effort is made to ensure success. Commerce has spotted this hunger for winning and has responded by producing hundreds of remedies, pills and potions. To say that the huge array of remedies, pills and potions is confusing to the fancier, would be putting it mildly. To purchase these remedies, pills and potions is not necessary for success and success is most definitely not guaranteed, if these preparations are given. What works is Great winning family of Birds and this we have & so can YOU!
The Pigeons ...
I have had pigeons on and off since 1959. I remember like it was yesterday the first pigeon I ever bought, and it was for 50 cents; a Trenton from a local neighborhood fancier. At that time there were lofts in every neighborhood in Pennsylvania. I started racing in 1979 and have been breeding and racing pigeons ever since
In the earlier days, the need was clear to me, I needed produce my own family, using the quality birds from gifted champion fanciers only! and to introduce occasional champion birds to strengthen the strain without losing the original bloodlines.
Over 30 years ago, when I started racing Pigeons, I put the emphasis on strains/families of racing pigeons in the USA, I was to develop racing pigeons that raced well in the 500 & 600 mile old bird races and the 400 mile young bird futurities. I under stood then same as I understand now If you want to become a champion, buy from CHAMPION BLOODSTOCK it is the only way! There is no other way
My family of birds originated from champion flyer's and breeder's from Bristol Pa, the Philadelphia area. One of these great fanciers then moved to Scranton Pa., Patsy DePietro. I trained with DePietro for a number of years and was his student for all of them. Many a winner I had, was a result of DePietro's blood. Patsy introduced me to Fats Schofield where I acquired from him some breeders I was also introduced to New-year loft at that time who was the premiere long distance and futurity King of all time in the Philadelphia area. His loft won every Futurity offered to him to fly. Fats and DePietro also had New-year loft birds. Today New-year blood runs strong in many of my present day champions Around the same time period ,Frank Gable who was a champion long distance champion in the Scranton Pennsylvania area and was getting out of birds. Frank gave me his top two foundation birds . who were responsible for many long distance wins for him, This is the basis for my family and they will win from 100 to 600 to this day and score in the futurity races across the USA. These birds I have developed into my own strain that is as good as anyone's best and I have the wins and the Race records to prove it.
Patsy DePietro's family of pigeons many of which were direct from Fats Schofield excelled at races from 100-600
The Schofields excelled in the 500 & 600 mile old bird races, but were even more successful at the 300 and 400 mile Young Bird futurities. Fats believed that young bird futurity races were crucial in his evaluation of his breeding program. Fats also had more of a European mindset in keeping his family competitive. If good birds were available to improve performance, they were added without regard to "strain". Fats produced a family of pigeons that was unique in that it was competitive in a large geographical area of the United States and performed well with many different handlers. The fact that Fats family of pigeons was able to adapt to the different handlers and conditions in the young bird futurity races in different areas of the country and Win is a strong testament to there Quality.
The blending of these families of birds is the basis of the Walsh family of birds. The present day Walsh Pigeons mature fast enough to compete and win as young birds and are still dominate at all distances in old birds. It does not matter if its a slow race with a head wind or a fast race with tail wind my birds will be with in striking range for the win of the race. In 2008 my #417 wins the 500 for Walsh. These birds love to fly and will fly at will for hours at a time in the heat of the day.
I have continued to select my family of pigeons based on the principals taught to me by Patsy and Fats. While It has been tempting to vary the family in order to pander to fads and fancies of the times I have stayed the course and continued to apply the same selection pressure on the family to develop a family of honest hard working no nonsense competitors that are able win and reproduce themselves in the stock loft. To day they are all Walsh pigeons, an interwoven and specialist family of birds winning for Walsh and across the USA.
Most fanciers go wrong when they get caught up in the mass marketing hype of the current times, and throw away years of work for an unknown bird or blood. I get a kick out of some of the advertising, People who do not race or have only a limited about of time & experience racing pigeons are so called experts by them self's. Fanciers who do not have the guts or faith in there birds , to put a one hundred bill on there bird, and send it to a futurity race. The same people will advertise a hype how great the birds are and show you some names of people who won with there birds. But in reality have no faith to send them out to the big futurity races, but will encourage you to do so. These fanciers may have that one or two wins, which they will keep on marketing for years to come. The claim now is they are professional breeders. If these guys can not fly there birds in the different futurity races, and place repetely in the prize money. then why do you need there birds , I do not think there birds are worth the time of day in my loft or any one else's. Fanciers see in the pigeon publications, auction sites a new fad or marketing scheme developing, which talks of winning, and decide that they must have these birds. Our birds are to be enjoyed and no one enjoys winning more than I do, but at the same time I want to win on a level playing field . One in which I have no advantage other than possibly my superior birds and my knowledge and experience. I believed in sending quality birds to a race instead of quantity. Whether it is a futurity out of area race or a local combine race. If you study the race sheet for combine and futurity races you will see, some guys really load up, on sending birds to a race , This is done in a hope to get that one bird clocked and win a prize so there marketing can start. So I will tell you right now it is impossible to have a level playing field , so you just need better birds, that can and will win for you and others and this is what I have at Walsh loft.
I will bring in a bird in the same way as Fats did. Two birds that I brought in 1995 are Torin & Molly . Their blood has been added to the family but only after they were proven competitors, and through breeding and testing of there children it was determined that they were an asset to the family. My experience is that, most of the time when you bring in a bird it does not work out. It is only with attention to detail and hard work that you can breed better family of birds. I am proof that if a fellow goes to the top flyers and pays attention to his advice and gets some of his very best birds he will get to the top of the race sheet.
"I have a rule here at Walsh Loft. Breeders are for breeding and flyers are for flying. I do not ask my flyers to become my breeders, even the race winners," I to inbreed for stock and outcross for flying. As a rule, I do not put just any bird in the breeding loft. It must be a champion or a daughter or a son of a champion and much thought must go into the process of placing a bird into the breeding loft. A one or two times combine winner does not make my breeding loft. I have always maintained of keeping together successful pairs at the end of the year I will take the time to and try a new mate . In the flying loft I will let two birds mate the way they like and may or may not take a pair of youngsters off them. Many times I get calls for birds of a certain strain, when these guys call I think to my self they are lost in this sport, and I will recite a story about Ad Schaerlaeckens, the famed Dutch flyer and author. "When asked 'What strain do you have?' Schaerlaeckens says the champions in Holland and Belgium do not understand. What does this man want, a strain or a good bird? This is because the majority of the super birds in Europe are products of crossing." I am a small team flyer, I do not have large race teams, every week this team was competing against odds of members with many more birds on there old bird team then myself, I believed in sending quality birds to a race instead of quantity. . The simple principle of genetics. HEREDITY IS HANDED DOWN FROM ONE GENERATION TO THE NEXT. LIKES BREED LIKES. and you see this in Walsh Birds. So there is no need for you to be left behind , you become a Wanna Be or spend the nest ten years saying I . COULD OF, SHOULD OF, WOULD OF But:

"I fly to win each and every race I compete in, "You have to be on your toes and thinking all the time in this game or you will be left behind." http://walshloft.com/2007BREEDERS/elvis.htm 2009 Old birds Walsh Loft wins 4 Combine races , First Overall Average Speed, First Champion Loft, we only few 23 Widowhood Cocks.
Our loft won 7 out of the 10 Combine Races, 1st Average speed , 1stChampion loft and 1st Champion Bird 2008 OB Central Carolina Combine of NC We also won 2007 GNCC CONCOURSE OLD BIRDS First Average speed and First Champion loft . 2,3,4,5,6,7th place Champion Birds. FIRST OVERALL AVERAGE SPEED 2006 GNCC which was My first old bird season 2006 here on the southeast Coast of North Carolina. Paul met with moderate success when compared to his past performance with the birds. With everything taken in to consideration I am quite pleased with my old bird team of nothing but yearlings and them flying against larger teams and many older birds with considerably more experience. You also have to realize that I started concourse racing with twenty-nine birds and sent every one of them to the races week after week. They came banging in time after time and demonstrating their great form, with the widowhood cocks strutting and cooing to their mates as they immediately trapped. Just watching them it was hard to believe they had flown the distances that they had. Every week this team was competing against odds of members shipping fifty birds as that is the Concourse limit. I.F 2008 Champion Loft old birds. this is a national award we are proud to win.
I have trouble keeping track of wins for my self never mind any one else.
Our achievements in combine races, and in Futurity out of area races, in the USA, are remarkable, since we race with a small team of birds and win out of turn , how can we win in some one else loft? We do! Again and again. Let us not forget the all important FIRST PLACE 2006 I.F. CONVENTION. We only send out a limited number of birds of Futurity birds and our record is to be envied. In 2006 I only shipped three birds to the convention race and we won the race and had a second bird high on the prize list. In the Pine tree Futurity in Maine my bird IF-06-PTD-247 , thee race was reported to me as a hard race, I was FIRST, with a 247, bred by my old Schofield line and ,Peck finished 4th with IF-06-PTD-248 , I only shipped two birds to this out of area race, the Maine Pine Tree Derby Race .A update on these two birds I sent to Maine, as two year old, the son of Big Daddy IF-06-PTD-248 wins the 500 combine 2008 for Jim Peck Saco Maine, the bird IF-06-PTD-247 bred out of the Son of Cunan also was clocked on this 500 , in a previous race he was only was 4 or 5 seconds out of first combine.
2007 Futurity Season
I.F Convention Race ; Washington DC
4 birds clocking in the prizes for Walsh in 3 different lofts.
7th East Meadow Futurity Auction (EMF) Futurity 2007 Long Island NY raced on 10-01-07 d my bird was clocked 7th position at Manny Parade s Long Island loft, another tuff New York race happen on this weekend with many birds lost, I get lucky once in a while and get a prize.
Well the facts of the world trade center race in New York 350 miles and over which happen Saturday September 29th 2007. one of my birds that was bred for Bill& Mike loft from NJ, won tenth position, This major New York Metropolitan race clocked only 12 day birds, can you imagine the world trade center race, with only 12 day birds. Participating in this race there was over 161 lofts over 1600 on the birds, first paid 50 grand 150th pays 1 grand, Billy clocked the same bird WWTC 5532 on the 200 mile race for a equal first place club and a sixth CJC concourse with 222 lofts and 3188 birds and the bird is a son of Conor
BAM One Loft Race 10-14-07 my bird took 3rd Position two seconds behind the winner, He was on the drop with another race to be flown at 250 miles on 10-27-07
Friday, 10-07-07 one of the birds I bred was 3rd in the GSO race series, l the gso is a series of races the jersey ,and Bronx flyers compete in , they pay 1250 dollars which entitles them to fly five different races on 5 different weekend at different distances, they are allowed to send only seven birds each, from the way I under stand, in a previous race one of the birds I bred placed 2nd and another bird as 12th , , these races are against the best lofts in the NJ/NY area.
I feel the best birds and flyers are in the New York area, if you can win there, you can win any where, they are the best of the best, birds that win in New York, & should eat up a race where only mediocre birds fly. the ,Suffolk-Nassau Futurity (SNF)- in long island new York 10-07-07 2nd & 11 SNF Futurity. 07 Long Island NY , it turned out to be a tuff race again ,, I sent three birds to there fifty dollar bands auction , u pay a entry fee and then the birds get auction to the handlers in NY, so this makes a big pot of capital cash, I ended up placing 2nd and 11th in two different lofts, all three of my birds were still there when shipping and made the race. As you know this is a feat in itself to have one bird make the race never mind all 3, I say this because all the young bird losses out there have left many empty perches. Walsh Loft Wins Annual Pine Tree Derby 2006 First & Fourth place! A update for 2008 old birds on the two birds I sent to Maine for the Pine Tree Derby, as two year old, the son of Big Daddy IF-06-PTD-248 wins the 500 combine 2008 for Jim Peck Saco Maine, the bird IF-06-PTD-247 bred out of the son of Cunan also was clock on this 500 , in another race he was only was 4 or 5 seconds out of first combine.
Make Today The Very First Day Of The Rest Of Your Life in this Pigeon Sport
You should start off with pigeons that can and will put you on top of the race sheet . Be careful and do not can get all caught up in the marketing schemes of the so-so pigeons. Some times its just a lot of hype and crap. we all want birds that stay a head of the flock , each and every race they fly.
You have been given this day to use as I WILL. You can waste it...or use it for good and wise decisions , But what you & I do today is important, Because you are exchanging a day of your life for it!
a day when you could of found out about winning Pigeon races, and winning Pigeons . learning how to breed a Champion bird. When tomorrow comes, this day will be gone forever, Leaving in its place something that you have traded for it. you want it to be gain, and not loss; Good and not evil; success and not failure; and Great pigeons will let you achieve this success in this sport . In order that you shall not regret today and start on your championship voyage ! the time to call Paul is now.
Today is the first day of the rest of your life and You must make the decision to get to the next level. Or do you just sit back stay the same and listen to the people who has all the great marketing advertisements and they keep pressing it in front of you so you think that is the only way to WIN. Ill tell you right now it is not so. Remember a champion loft is only as strong as the weakest link. Take a good hard look and make sure you are not that weak link. In this world it has always been and always will be that knowledge is equal to power and wealth and with out knowledge there will be no power, wealth or wisdom. Great Birds and Knowledge wins pigeon races.
I am in reality reluctant to disclose what I know or learned about racing pigeons. I want the advantage that knowledge gives me, I choose to keep this knowledge to my self--and I now started to share wisdom with some of you but not all. Remember you are the coach of your own team and it is you who picks his line up for the races no one else.
In this game of pigeon flying the Champion Flyer has much knowledge and speaks little , the Wanna be Champion pigeon flyer has no knowledge and speaks lots with much advice for all to HEAR. On the following pages, Paul Walsh Lofts features individual pigeons, If you have any questions about any of the pigeons you see on these pages, please do not hesitate to contact me at Paul@walshloft.com, or call me. Please remember I am on the East Coast time. I hope you enjoy my Website, I have tried to make it simple, yet interesting and easy to move around in. I have tried to keep it from being too commercial, If you have any suggestions or comments on our Website, don t hesitate to let us know. I will be pleased to put you on top of the race sheet.
at this point on the web I do not wish to bore you ,but most of the race championships etc, that my loft competed for, in the last ten years or so is on this next click from the past to the present, I am very proud of what I have been doing and all this information is just a click away, http://walshloft.com/thingremember_.html please take the time and go to the link above, and you will see I am a Champion, and you will see a Champion loft of birds at work. I have over 30 years in this pigeon game.

Breeders 2009
General Tips ...
Probably the biggest tip for a new flyer is to be quiet and just listen. Don't be a know it all and just be patient. Learn how to become a handler first. 100% of all flyers want to start at the top in reality 99.9% of all flyers start at the bottom.
Great pigeons will not fly if the handler is bad. Then become an observer of your loft and every loft you go to. If some one has mastered that and is not being successful, I think he should see what his immediate competition is doing and adapt.
What I am trying to say here is, if some one is on widowhood or flying the dark system and they are cleaning your clock week in and week out then you better meet you challenge and adapt.
Try out a different health program, there are many of them out there from every supplier. Train harder or get a honest opinion from someone, what could be the problem and work It out, two heads are better than one. Try to be honest with yourself no matter the outcome.
