The cutting horse world lost the remarkable sire DOC O'LENA on Feb 27 when the 26 year old horse suffered a stroke and died.

A 1969 bay stallion by DOC BAR and out of POCO LENA by POCO BUENO, DOC O'LENA is the second leading cutting sire of all time of money winning offspring. The leading sire is DOC BAR. The first three generations of DOC O'LENA's get have accumulated earnings of $26,642,310 to date, 476 of his direct offspring have earned a total of $9.476,980 in the cutting pen.

As a 3 year old, DOC O'LENA himself won all three go-rounds of the National Cutting Horse Association Futurity as well as the finals, a feat that is still unmatched 22 futurities later. He was ridden to those wins by his lifetime trainer/owner Shorty Freeman, who passed away Feb. 22, 1990. At the time of his death, DOC O'LENA was owned by the DOC O'LENa Syndicate and was standing at the Phillips Ranch.
